American Idol: Will Haley Reinhart's Luck Run Out?

Haley Reinhart and the other six finalists are performing "current" music on Fox's American Idol.

Current music was the theme as Haley Reinhart and the other six remaining contestants on American Idol took the stage at 7 p.m.

Reinhart narrowly avoided elimination last week after performing Blondie's "Call Me." The performance received a lukewarm reception from judges and Reinhart found herself among the bottom three vote getters.

Reinhart, 20, is a Wheeling native and Harper College student. This week Reinhart sang Adele's "Rolling in the Deep." The perfomance was well-received by judges, with Randy Jackson saying it was a great.

Reinhart performed with Harper's Jazz ensemble and Jazz lab while a student there in 2009 and 2010.

"We'll take up to 15 contestants on a first come, first served basis," Aaron Wagner, a graphic artist major from Buffalo Grove who is organizing the event, said in a press release.

Wagner said students must be enrolled at Harper with a current ID. Contestants will select music from a listing here.

One contestant, Christian Davis of Wheeling, said he will sing "Break On Through (to the Other Side)" by The Doors. Davis, an English major is in a garage band.

"I didn't want to perform a sing-along song," Davis said in a press release from Harper. "I want to give it my all, and go crazy with it, to challenge myself."

The contestants will be accompanied by Live Band Karaoke. The judges will include Ken Spurr, a Harper faculty member and Jazz pianist who taught Reinhart; Michael Nejman, director of Harper Student Activities; and Barb Bowker, a pianist and Harper professor of music.

Prizes will be $100, $50 and $25 VISA gift certificates. To register for Harper Hawk Idol go to harpercab@harpercollege.edu. Students also can register the day off the contest.
