Hullabaloo's Old Vine Zinfandel lives up to its name. The Napa Valley vineyards these grapes are sourced from date back to 1892. Grown in Lodi, California, this sweet, smooth red is perfect for a Labor Day BBQ. It goes great with everything from burgers and sausage to lamb and pork veal. This wine has hints of blackberries and black pepper. It also blends in juicy plum flavors with a touch of spice.
If you are looking for a heartier wine, then you don't even have to leave the state of California. 90+ Cellars partners with vineyards from all over the world. Their Super Cuvée is a red blend from Napa Valley. Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Merlot, and Malbec come together in a full-bodied wine with a bit of punch. The cedar and coffee flavors go well with steaks. 90+ Cellars Super Cuvée can also be paired with prime ribs and roasts; it makes an excellent dinner wine. Be sure to note the hint of mint, balancing the heavier flavors.
Our last selection is a white wine from Spain that pairs well with white meat, especially spicy seafood, and bold cheeses. From Emina's Rueda vineyard is the perfect Verdejo. Emina Verdejo is a floral white wine; it tastes of almonds and apricots. If you are not familiar, Verdejo is a bit more botanical than Chardonnay. It isn't uncommon to find hints of grass or herbs in a Verdejo. Emina's Verdejo is a beautiful, pale yellow color with green accents. It is a very balanced wine, at once both bitter and fresh.
You can't go wrong with any of these wines at your Labor Day gathering. If it's a family dinner, a BBQ, or just a casual get together, one of these wines will fit the bill.
