Tips For Buying The Best Wine Opener

There are many different types of corkscrews on the market. With so many choices, it can be hard to decide which one is best for you. Here are factors to consider when purchasing a wine opener.

There are many different types of wine openers on the market.  With so many choices, it can be hard to decide which one is best for you.  Ideally, you want to purchase a wine opener that is going to last for a long time and not frustrate you every time you go to open a bottle of wine.  Here are factors to consider when purchasing a wine opener:

Do you need your opener to last for a long time?

If you’re just picking up a last minute bottle opener for heading out to a picnic, you may be able to get a cheap wine opener and have it work for just that day.  But, ideally you’ll want to purchase a wine opener for your home that will last.  You will want to consider if you’ll need replacement parts or batteries at some point.  One thing to keep in mind is that metal is usually better than plastic when it comes to durability.

How much strength is needed to open your bottle?

How much strength is needed to extract the cork out of the bottle?  Wine openers that require a lot of twisting may not be a good option if you have limited strength.  Electric wine openers, on the other hand, are a good option for people who have limited strength or mobility.

Will you be able to actually open the bottle?

While there are a lot of fancy openers out there, sometimes simple is better.  If you have to read instructions every time you open a bottle, you may want to pass on buying the ones with all of the bells and whistles.  Being frustrated and having the possibility of destroying the cork while opening your wine is just not worth it.

Portability

Will you be going to festivals where you can bring your own wine?  If so, then portability is important to you.  You will need to make sure that the opener can fit into your things easily.  You will also have to decide if the opener you have at home can double as a portable one or if you will need to buy two separate ones.  You may also not want to travel with a really expensive one in case you lose it.  Another nice feature is finding an opener that will re-cork the wine if you don’t finish it all while you’re out.

What’s the price tag?

Just like any purchases you make, cost is a factor to consider when buying a wine opener.  If you want your wine opener to last a long time, then you’ll want to invest in one that costs more and is built solid.  Or, as mentioned above, if you’re going to be taking it out of your home often, you probably don’t want to spend hundreds of dollars on it in case it gets lost.

If you’re a wine lover and opening bottles frequently, it’s worth considering these factors so that opening wine is a pleasant and easy experience for you.  There is no one size fits all and you may even choose to have multiple openers to fit the situation and mood that you’re in.  Now, time to pop those bottles open!
