Aaron Del Mar Reelected Cook County GOP Chair

Cook County Republican Party Chairman Aaron Del Mar was reelected tonight for a second term. He defeated challenger Chris Cleveland 64.29% to 35.71%.

“I would like to thank my fellow Republicans in Cook County for entrusting me with their support to lead our Party for the next two years,” Del Mar stated. “Now we must work together to face our biggest test. We must defeat Pat Quinn and the Democrats this November and finally elect a competent Governor to lead our great state.”

Aaron Del Mar was elected Chairman in April of 2012. Since his election, he has instituted a number of highly successful initiatives, including his signature Committeeman Support Program which has provided active assistance to dozens of Committeemen and organizations throughout Cook County. He has also led an initiative to combat vote fraud and restore integrity to the vote process in Chicago and Cook County. In the 2012 General Election he coordinated call centers throughout the County to support Republican candidates in swing House and Senate Districts. And he has been an active, public face for the Party both in fundraising and in the media.

Del Mar concluded: “In the past two years, we have been building towards this critical election. If we swing just 5 votes per precinct this year compared to 2010, we will receive 30% of the vote in Cook County and our statewide candidates will be victorious. That has been our plan since I was elected two years ago, and over the next eight months we will see the fruits of these efforts.”

The vote took place this evening at the Cook County Republican Party Convention at the Parthenon in Chicago. Republican Township and Ward Committeemen cast weighted votes on behalf of Republican voters in their jurisdictions.
