Three...Two...One...BLAST OFF!

Boy Scout Troop 188 hosted it's Annual Model Rocket Launch.

On Saturday, July 16, Palatine based Boy Scout Troop 188 hosted it’s Annual Model Rocket Launch.

Troop 188 extended invitations to area Cub Scout Packs and was delighted with the spectacular turn out that they received. More than 30 Scouts, including Cubs from Pack 59 and Pack 339, also located in Palatine, came out to join in the fun.

Excited Cub Scouts and their parents, along with members of Troop 188, began arriving at Citizen’s Park, Barrington, IL at 1 p.m. for the event. Troop 188, provided a little shade, snacks and ice cold water along with the help of experts for those in attendance, Mother Nature provided the heat!

Anticipation was everywhere, because three hours of launching the masterpieces of Estes Rockets as well as home made paper rockets, promised to be both fun and challenging. The young rocketeers, with the help of Life Scout, Travis P., launched their rockets, one by one.

Fellow Boy Scouts and Cub Scout guests watched in amazement as some rockets flew so high that they could only be spotted on the return trip to Earth. A slight breeze from time to time offered multiple landing locations throughout the open field and made the retrieval fun and interesting at times.

The rockets varied from those made from paper towel rolls, Estes kits and even an R2D2 rocket! A variety, filled with personality and imagination. Check out the pictures of these creations.
