Scouting For Food is a SUCCESS!

Scouting For Food Success - Thanks to YOU!

Did you put out a bag of food for the Scouts on Saturday?

A lot of your Palatine area friends and neighbors did too!  So many did, that our area Scouts, in conjunction with the US Postal Service, collected over 19,500 pounds of food on Saturday as part of its Annual Food Drive.

Mike Gutschick, NWSC’s Scouting For Food Chair called in the results today, and they are rather impressive.  The amount of items collected was lower than last year, but still a very welcome addition to the local food repositories. Even though the numbers were lower, we are happy to report that with your support, we were able to assist in adding almost 10 more TONS of food on the shelves of local pantries.

It’s important to note the impact that an annual event like Scouting For Food and the like, can make such an impact in our communities. The Palatine Township Food Pantry publishes that it is a source of nutrition that serves senior citizens, the disabled and low-income families and individuals who reside in the Township with non-perishable food on a monthly basis. Presently, the Pantry is assisting approximately 265 families a month. Most of the food in the Pantry comes from donations by individuals and food drives sponsored by schools, churches, civic groups and businesses. Food drives are always needed to keep our shelves stocked, but each and every individual donation adds up, enabling us to fulfill our mission.

A huge thank you goes out to over a dozen Cub Scout Packs, Boy Scout Troops and Crews in the Palatine area for putting so much time and effort into Scouting for Food. A few of the units participating this year were Packs 91, 96, 229, 339, and 348 and Troops 21, 69, 188 and 461. In addition, Crews were on hand at the local facilities to help unload the boxes upon boxes of non-perishable food items and route them to our area food banks. Local pantries benefiting from this annual event are, Immanuel Lutheran, Palatine Township, Holy Family, Saint Ann’s and PADS, just to name a few.

If you donated food this year, thank you. If you didn’t, please make a mental note right now to keep an eye out for the next Scouting for Food event, and give what you can.

Thank you again for your support!
