Zurich Offers Strong Support for Marklund

(Dec 16, 2013)    Zurich North America continued its strong support of Marklund, a nonprofit that serves individuals with profound disabilities, with a recent community grant of $15,000. The Schaumburg-based world-wide insurance company has been a big advocate of Marklund for the past two years, providing $25,000 in grants and more than 400 hours of volunteer service. Zurich’s Community Grant program provides funding to charities that fit the company’s giving philosophy, operate in cities where Zurich has a presence and have Zurich employees involved as volunteers.

“Zurich is proud of its relationship with Marklund and is happy to be able to assist the worthwhile organization both financially and through volunteer community service,” noted Karen Michalski, Quality Assurance Analyst at Zurich North America.

Because of its strong support, particularly within the volunteer arena, Marklund named Zurich its 2013 Volunteer Group of the Year.

A company known for promoting community investment and volunteerism among its own employees, Zurich arranged for some of its staff members to volunteer over the course of the past couple of years at the Marklund Children’s Home in Bloomingdale on various occasions. The volunteers worked one-on-one with Marklund clients in activities such as the annual Summer Games, Halloween parties, and holiday gift opening. Additionally, others who wanted to help but could not make it to events supported the clients in other ways including creating Christmas ornaments and lap blankets as well as providing pro bono legal services.

“We have enjoyed doing what we can at the Children’s Home, but it was nice for me to see the Marklund’s beautiful Geneva campus as well so that I can help make connections for those Z    urich employees who may want to do their volunteering at that location,” Michalski continued.

“We are so thankful for the continued support of Zurich North America,” stated Vicki Krystof, Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations at Marklund. “Marklund impacts the lives of individuals with disabilities through our commitment to providing high quality care and utilizing state-of-the-art equipment and therapies, not an inexpensive task. And this is possible thanks to supporters like Zurich.” In North America, Zurich is a leading commercial property-casualty insurance provider serving the global corporate, large corporate, middle market, specialties and programs sectors.

Marklund serves more than 200 children and adults with severe and profound developmental disabilities at its Bloomingdale and Geneva locations providing residential, therapeutic and educational services as well as developmental training. For information, visit its website at www.marklund.org.
