UPDATED: Driving School Shutters Remaining Suburban Locations

The Northwest Suburban Driving School in Palatine shut down in 2012 while several other suburban location closed this past week.

The Palatine Northwest Suburban Driving School was not among the branches of the suburban driving school to close last week.

Information aggregated from a Daily Herald article by Patch.com on Tuesday incorrectly stated that the Palatine location was among the schools that closed last week.

Jeff Mantelman, owner of Certified Teen and Adult Driving School/Driving for Teens in Palatine, said the Palatine Northwest Suburban Driving School closed in 2012.

The locations that closed abruptly this past week are: Schaumburg, Crystal Lake, Woodstock, Algonquin, McHenry, Mundelein, Lake Zurich and Vernon Hills, a representative from the Secretary of State's Commercial Driver Training Section in Elk Grove Village told Patch.com Wednesday afternoon

Mantelman said his business has been fielding calls from dozens of concerned parents who, due to the misinformation provided in the media, were concerned that Certified Teen and Adult Driving School/Driving for Teens in Palatine closed. Mantelman said his driving is open and continuing to operate as usual.

"We have a thriving business," said Mantelman on Wednesday afternoon.

In addition, Mantelman's driving school is working with the Secretary of State to determine how to assist Northwest Suburban Driving School students in Schaumburg who are unable to complete their coursework after the abrupt closing.

Certified Teen and Adult Driving School/Driving for Teens has more information on its website about the Northwest Suburban Driving school closure and what the business is doing to help accommodate displaced students.

Several comments posted on the Northwest Suburban Driving School Facebook page reveal parents received no notice of the pending closure.

The Daily Herald reports that affected parents and students can call the Secretary of State's Commercial Driver Training Section at 847-981-7455 to file a claim if they paid the full $400 cost of the driving course and are seeking reimbursement for an unused portion of the course.
