Tattoo Parlor Rejected by Palatine Will Open Near Deerfield

Maximum tattoo was unanimously rejected by the Palatine Village Board in February.

Beth Cisco said she prayed the day before her proposal for a tattoo shop at 1709 E. Rand Rd. went before the Palatine village board in February.

"I asked God to have this work out," Cisco said. "When we received the 'no' vote we were just devastated."

Although Cisco was disappointed by that , in the end things worked out for her and her husband Phil–just not in Palatine. The couple plan to open Maximum Tattoo in mid-May at 20594 N. Milwaukee Ave., in unincorporated Deerfield.

Cisco said she does not harbor ill feelings toward Palatine and appreciated many of the comments made by residents online at Palatine Patch.

"I still think that it could have been really great for Palatine," Cisco said. "Especially since the Harley dealership was opening down the street."

At the February meeting, residents from the Pinehurst Manor subdivison said the location of the business was too close to their residential neighborhood. Palatine council members praised the Cisco's business plan and presentation but also expressed concern about the location. Some council members also made general comments about whether a tattoo shop was the right for Palatine.

"Palatine is a very particular town, it's a hometown. It's my hometown. And my vision, and I think some people share my concern is that in our home town there is not a tattoo shop," District 6 Council member Aaron Del Mar said at the February meeting.

Cisco said she did her best to try to show people who she was, but said sometimes people already have made up their minds. Cisco said the new shop will be closer to her and her husband's home in Wheeling.

"I do think it worked out for the best," Cisco said.
