Palatine Salon Collecting Donations for Domestic Violence Awareness Month

Salon Two Twenty is collecting blow dryers and flat irons to donate to a women's shelter.

In honor of Domestic Violence Awareness month, the employees at Salon Two Twenty in Palatine are giving back to a local women’s organization.

Throughout the month, they are collecting old but usable hair tools, including blow dryers and flat irons.

The salon, at 220 N. Smith St., is taking the beauty items and donating them to WINGS in Palatine.

“October is Domestic Violence Awareness month, which is why we want to advertise this now,” said the salon’s Lena Liberto said. “The idea stemmed from our mission to promote beauty for all women.”

She said salon employees will clean up any of the donated items and bring them to WINGS.

The salon, which opened in 2004, has been collecting the donations for a few months, but this month decided to give back locally.

“We have had numerous donations before, but from August until September, the donations went to the city of Chicago. But because of Domestic Violence Awareness month, we want to give back to our community in Palatine,” she said.

As part of the collection, they also are offering a deal on some of their products. They say you can usually buy a Schwarzkopf flat iron or blow dryer in their business for $215 each. However, if you donate an old working blow dryer or flat iron of any brand, you can get the tools for $149 each.
