When and how did your business get started? Orbit Skate Center has been part of the Palatine community since 1972. My family has owned this amazing facility since 1992. When the original owners retired, I bought the rink because it allowed me to have my children with me at work. All our employees are allowed to bring their children to work and it's gratifying to be able to give back to the community that has given us so much.

What is your business best known for?
Our school break free pass cards are popular with most of our local schools. We give out over 100,000 free skate passes a year in parades and donations. Our national program, KidsSkateFree.com, provides families with children 12 and under with two free skate passes a week to help fight childhood obesity.

Our birthday parties, corporate holiday events, Bar and Bat Mitzvah celebrations are awesome. Our guests are enjoying the new Galaxy SkyBar and upgraded Cosmic Cafe. We offer public skate sessions, learn to skate classes, catering on site and lots more. Our skate shop is large and well stocked and we can repair most skates and inlines. We are a rollerblade dealer and carry everything from children's beginner skates to high end speed and racing gear.

Does your business offer a special deals card or program? Sign up for our email newsletters on the website, check out Groupon, Yelp, Amazon Local, Chicago Fun and other popular deal sites for Orbit Skate Center's coupons and deals.

What's something interesting about your business your customers might not know? Tara Lipinski learned to skate at Orbit Skate Center. She was switched over to ice skating because roller sports haven't been accepted into the Olympics. Many Olympic skaters began as roller skaters like Apollo Ohno and Chad Hedrick. Roller skating is in the Pan American Games and the World Games.

Why did you choose Palatine to open your business? Orbit Skate Center was already located in Palatine. Although we are a bit out of the way and not part of all the "downtown" activities, we still regard ourselves as part of the Palatine community and enjoy offering our local schools and organizations a great place to enjoy family entertainment and roller skating.
