There could soon be a new tenant in the old Menards store at 1775 N. Rand Road.

On Monday, the Palatine village council voted to give First Rockford Group Inc. a year to find a buyer for the property, according to the Daily Herald. The village bought the property in 2009 after Menards moved to Long Grove, closing its Palatine location, the Daily Herald reports.

If First Rockford Group Inc. finds a buyer, the developer will purchase the property from the village for $6 million — paying half upfront and the rest through sales generated by the business, according to the newspaper report.

So far, the developer has been in "serious talks with a limited-assortment grocery store" and has spoken with a furniture store and rug store about occupying the space, according to the Daily Herald.
