UPDATE: Palatine and Arlington Heights Caribou Coffee Closing

The coffee houses located on Dundee Road in Palatine and Rand Road in Arlington Heights will close their doors on Sunday, April 14; the new Arlington Heights location on Rand will join others in soon becoming Peet's Coffee & Tea.

Caribou Coffee Company locations in and around Palatine and Arlington Heights are experiencing a shake-up; two of the coffee shops will close their doors, and others nearby will soon be transitioned to Peet's Coffee & Tea locations.

"Over the past few months, we at Caribou have revisited our business strategy, including closely evaluating our performance by market to make decisions that best position us for long-term growth," Tattersfield said.

He added that 80 underperforming stores will close on April 14th, and an additional 88 locations in Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., Maryland, Virginia, Georgia, Illinois and Eastern Wisconsin will be converted to Peet’s Coffee & Tea locations over the next 12 to 18 months.

The Palatine Caribou Coffee at 575 E. Dundee Road, along with the  are included in those that will close their doors on Sunday, April 14.

The new Caribou Coffee location at 1017 W. Dundee Road, will remain open, along with the Long Grove location in the Sunset Grove shopping mall. Both will soon be known as Peet's Coffee & Tea

The Caribou Coffee name will remain on 468 locations in Minnesota, North Dakota, South Dakota, western Wisconsin, Iowa, Kansas, North Carolina, and in Denver, Colorado - along with ten international markets, according to the statement. 

"While the decisions we’ve made have been difficult for our team in Minneapolis, as well as our team members across the country and our guests and fans everywhere, we are working to make this transition as seamless as possible for the Caribou community," Tattersfield said. 

In December 2012, the New York Times reported Joh A. Benckiser, a German conglomerate, agreed to purchase Caribou Coffee Company for $340 million, and in mid-2012, bought Peet's Coffee & Tea
