Legion Seeks Donations For Sailor Holiday Dinner

Being away from home for the first time is difficult for any individual.  Imagine being a naval recruit and not being able to see your family on Thanksgiving.  This year the American Legion Post 690 family is inviting 35 recruits from the Great Lakes Naval Station to the American Legion to celebrate Thanksgiving.

The American Legion family is seeking donations for their Support a Sailor dinner which is to be held on Thanksgiving, Thursday November 28th when a bus load of sailors from Great Lakes Naval Station will come to the American Legion for a Thanksgiving dinner and a day of activities.

“This year, we have elected to once again open the American Legion on Thanksgiving Day to those that are actively serving our country,” said Ed Grabowski, Commander American Legion Post 690.  “With Great Lakes Naval Station being so close, we are bringing a bus load of recruits to the Legion and providing them with a day of thanks.  Since they will not be able to enjoy their holiday with their loved ones, the Legion will be providing dinner, a day of activities and the ability to call home for however long they desire.  It is our goal to provide to these young men and women a memory that will stay with them their entire life.”
