Chamber holds Rockin the Blocks Community Block Party

The Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce will hold their 2nd ‘Rockin the Blocks community block party which is open to the public in downtown Palatine in the BMO Harris Bank parking lot at the corners of Brockway and Slade on Friday, July 26th from 5:00 PM until 11:00 PM and Saturday, July 27th from noon until 11:00 PM.

“Rockin the Blocks will feature live entertainment, food booths, beer garden and a host of other activities,” said Mindy Phillips, Chamber Director.  “We will have activities for the whole family.  On Saturday, we will have a wide variety of family activities, a singing contest for children and young adults and a dunk tank.”

The block party will have music all weekend.  On Friday, attendees will enjoy stage performances by Allison Wonder Band from 6:00 PM until 8:00 PM, followed by popular cover band headliner Alex and the All Stars.  Live music continues on Saturday and is highlighted by a high energy performance by Trash Martini from 8:30 PM until 10:45 PM.  Other performers on Saturday include Arthur Ritis and Slipped Discs as well as Mustache Pete.

Food options will include a pig roast from Brothers Ribs, treats from Hot Dog Richie’s, pizza from Pasquale's Pizzeria & Delicatessen and sweet treats from Signature Sweets and Rock N Roll Ala Mode.  The Rotary Club of Palatine will host the pop and water tent and d’Vine Wine will be on hand with a variety of wine choices.  The beer garden will feature Miller Lite, Miller Genuine Draft, Leinenkugel Summer Shandy as well as Fat Tire and will be open for the duration of the event.

On Saturday from noon until 4:00 PM the Chamber will host special family activities.  Activities include an obstacle course, watermelon eating contests, dance and martial arts performances and demonstrations from the Palatine Police K-9 unit.  Throughout the afternoon, LegoLand will host Lego building contests, a roaming balloon artist will be present along with numerous kids’ games.  Positive Stokes Art Gallery will offer free face painting, a mosaic art booth and a community painting project.

For a nominal fee, 6 to 19 year olds can participate in the Palatine Sings contest.  Registration is available in advance through the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce.  The Palatine Jaycees will also host a dunk tank to raise funds for their organization.  As a side note from the author of this blog, keep your eyes open around the dunk tank on Saturday afternoon.  I will be in the dunk tank at 4:30 PM and Tom Morrison our state representative will be in the tank at 5:00 PM.

“The Rockin the Blocks event is designed to be the ultimate block party featuring Palatine Chamber member businesses,” said Phillips.  “We are also using the event as a platform to launch the promotion of the outdoor movie night in August.  On Sunday, August 18th we will be showing the classic summertime movie The Sandlot.”

A portion of the funds raised throughout the event will benefit the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce scholarship programs.  Lead sponsors for Rockin’ the Block are BMO Harris Bank and Weber-Stephen Products, LLC.  Other sponsors include Allied A/C & Heating, Northrop Grumman, Lamplighter Inn Tavern & Grille, and Palatine Bank & Trust.
