Plenty to do in Palatine this weekend

If you are looking for something to do this weekend you won't have to stray outside the borders of Palatine.

If you are looking for something to do this weekend you won't have to stray outside the borders of Palatine.  Thanks to the Palatine Jaycees, the Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) and the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce, you can enjoy a garage sale, pancake breakfast and an outdoor movie night.

On Saturday morning August 18th, start out the morning with a pancake breakfast at the American Legion.  From 8:00 AM until 11:30 AM at the American Legion Hall 122 West Palatine Road in Palatine, the S.A.L. will be serving “all you can eat” pancakes and French toast.  With the pancakes and French toast, they will be serving ham, bacon, scrambled eggs, fruit, orange juice, coffee and milk. The breakfast costs $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for children between 6 and 12 years old and children under 5 years old are free.  All the funds raised at the breakfast will be used to support Legion Family Charities.

After breakfast, head over to the Palatine Jaycee Garage Sale.  The sale will run from 8:00 AM until 2:00 PM and be on the first floor of the Gateway Center Garage located next to the Palatine train station at the corners of Smith and Colfax Streets.

“The response to the garage sale has been just as positive as in past years,” said Amy Bricco, Project Co-Chairperson.  “We have people requesting spots to sell their own belongings and also from several local businesses selling their merchandise or promoting their business.  Between the number of booths rented and the myriad of items that will be available, I’m sure this is going to be a very successful sale.”

Plan on spending Sunday night August 19th with the family.  The Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce will be presenting the family favorite “The Goonies” on the side of the BMO Harris Bank building located at 50 North Brockway in downtown Palatine starting at dusk. Just bring a lawn chair.  The event is free to the public and seating is available on Station Street, just east of the bank building.

Movie night will start at 6:00 PM with activities including children’s art projects, games, chair massages and a variety of family activities. Before the movie, enjoy some pizza and refreshments at the Lamplighter's beer garden. From what I have just been told, the Chamber has just added some new activities.  According to event chair Liz Noe of ElizEvents, Inc., the School of Metaphysics will have a treasure hunt, Rock n Roll ala mode will be selling ice cream, Signature Sweets will be there with popcorn, Cookie Cards will be there with cookies the kids can decorate and there will be a balloon animal artist.
