There is quite a bit going on in downtown Palatine over the next few weeks that the entire community can enjoy.

This Saturday, November 10th Dobby's World-Wide Liquors will host their WINES FOR THANKSGIVING TASTING.  Stop in and taste wines they’ve specially picked for this holiday season.  They'll have many different grape varietals that match turkey and ham perfectly.  The tasting is from Noon to 5:00 PM at their store at the corner of Brockway and Palatine Road.

This weekend the American Legion will be celebrating Veterans Day and honoring our veterans.  The Palatine American Legion Post 690 will host their annual Veterans’ Day Ceremony, starting at noon on Sunday, November 11th at the Veterans’ Memorial in Community Park located at the intersection of Northwest Highway (Route 14) and East Wood Street.  The ceremony will feature the Legion’s Color Guard and Rifle Team as well as remarks by leaders of the Legion, the Legion Auxiliary and the Sons of the American Legion.  The program will conclude with a rifle salute and the playing of Taps at 12:30 P.M.

The following weekend is all about food at the American Legion with a fish taco dinner on Friday night, November 16th and a pancake breakfast the following morning on the 17th.  Both of these meals will be served at the Legion Hall 122 West Palatine Road in Palatine to raise funds for Legion Family Charities.

“From 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM, we will be serving baked tilapia tacos for $9.00 for adults and $5.00 for children under eight years old,” said Judy Kyska, American Legion Auxiliary President.  “The dinner includes chips and salsa, tortilla soup, three fish tacos, rice, refried beans and dessert.  The dinner will be held downstairs in the Legion’s family-friendly clubroom.  A full service bar is available for drinks.”

On Saturday, The Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) are holding their monthly pancake breakfast from 8:30 AM until 11:30 AM.  “We want to invite the community to join us for our monthly pancake breakfast which we hold on the third Saturday of the month,” said Garrett McNally, Commander of the S.A.L.  “We will be holding our breakfast upstairs in our hall.  The breakfast costs $6.00 for adults, $3.00 for children between 6 and 12 years old and children under 5 years old are free.  We will be serving “all you can eat” pancakes and French toast.  With the pancakes and French toast, the S.A.L. will serve sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, fruit, orange juice, coffee and milk.”

After breakfast, stick around downtown for some holiday fun.  During the Holidays, the Downtown Palatine Business Association has their Holidays on the Town event when on November 16th and 17th downtown Palatine shops, restaurants and businesses will offer demonstrations, special offers, complimentary food and beverages, trend-setting fashions and home décor ideas for the holiday season.  Passports are required for special savings, tasty treats and a chance to win.  Passports to the event are available for purchase at any participating businesses and are on sale during the event for only $2.00.  Simply present your passport at any participating business for a stamp and you are entered in that stores raffle.  For all the details go to www.downtownpalatine.org.
