The Sons of the American Legion are holding a Texas Hold'em tournament which is open to the public on Saturday, April 28th.

The Sons of the American Legion (S.A.L.) are holding a Texas Hold’em tournament which is open to the public on Saturday, April 28th starting at 2:00 PM until Midnight at the American Legion Hall 122 West Palatine Road in Palatine to raise funds for Legion Family Charities.

“Come out, play some poker and have some fun,” said Garrett McNally, S.A.L. Project Co-Chairman.  “We’ll start the evening with some $2.00 to $8.00 cash games and start some $20.00 to $40.00 buy in tournaments as more people arrive.  The main tournament will start at around 7:00 PM and will cost $75.00.  One re-buy for $50.00 will be allowed.  There will be door prizes and prizes for the top five winners in the main tournament.”

Cash tables will run all night until midnight.  Sloppy Joes or hot dogs and tater tops as well as pizza will be available for purchase.  A service bar will be open upstairs for the tournament and a full service bar will be open downstairs in the clubroom.  “Our goal is to make this a friendly neighborhood game,” said Matt Christie, Project Co-Chairman.  “We encourage camaraderie between the players as well as with their dealer.”

The most notable of the American Legion’s projects is the annual Memorial Day program.  The program encompasses the parade, the laying of wreaths at two of Palatine’s war memorials and a program at Community Park.  The American Legion, as part of Legion Charities, also conducts bingo for blind veterans several times a year, hosts a Thanksgiving party for sailors from Great Lakes Naval Training Center and brings gifts to veterans during visits to Hines V. A. Hospital in Hines, Illinois.

The Sons of the American Legion was created in 1932 as an organization within the American Legion.  The S.A.L. is made up of boys and men of all ages whose parents or grandparent served in the United States military and became eligible for membership in the American Legion.  There are currently 300,000 members of the S.A.L. in this country and abroad.
