School is back in session and you know teachers aren’t going to waste any time in assigning homework. And if your kids are like mine, they’ll start whining as soon as they receive it. “It’s too much!” “It’s still summer out.” “I can’t believe we have all of this math homework.”

It’s a very rough reentry process for kids to have to switch from a carefree summer schedule to having to manage their time between homework and after school activities. Plus, the homework gets harder. I know my kids experienced shock as they started to get older and had more than 5 minutes of homework, that didn’t involve coloring. Last year I spent so many afternoons and evenings feeling exhausted and frustrated trying to help them through their homework that it seemed like I was being assigned homework. Hey, I went to school already! I did my time. Why am I suffering?
