Palatine Park District Slates Free Summer Concerts

A list of free concerts to be featured among the Sounds of Summer.

If you are looking for outdoor entertainment on a budget, enjoy Palatine Park District’s free concerts in its Sounds of Summer series, running through August.

Featured artists span a host of musical genres and offer fun for the entire family. Performances take place at , 162 E. Palatine Road, unless otherwise noted. Picnics are welcome.

  • Wednesday, June 15: Palatine Concert Band

Enjoy local ensemble as it enlivens summer with popular and classical selections.

  • Friday, June 17: American English

Local rock band plays tribute to the awesome sounds originating with The Beatles.

  • Wednesday, June 22: Small Potatoes

Chicago duo Jacquie Manning and Rich Prezioso plays a blend of folk, country, blues, swing and Irish music.

  • Thursday, June 23: Arpinian

Concert takes place at 6:30 p.m. in Towne Square (Palatine Road and Smith Street) and features folk, rock and jazz/fusion covers.

  • Friday, June 24: Second Time Around

Classic rock band re-enacts favorites of that genre’s greatest but dips into blues as well. Featured songs originate from Deep Purple, The James Gang and Yes, to name a few.

  • Wednesday, July 6: Palatine Concert Band

  • Friday, July 8: The Neverly Brothers

Enjoy the kind of rock ’n’ roll tunes that inspired fodder for many young British pop bands.

  • Wednesday, July 13: Palatine’s Children’s Chorus

Artistic director Sue Falbo leads the Park District’s Children’s Concert Choir in its 16th concert.

  • Friday, July 15: Barefoot Hawaiians

Noon performance is at Towne Square (intersection of Palatine Road and Smith Street) and features authentic Polynesian-style drumming and dancing.

  • Friday, July 22: The Rhythm Rockets

Ensemble of seven creates music of jump, jazz, and rhythm & blues from the 1940s-1950s.

  • Thursday, July 28: Summer String

Concert is at 6:30 p.m. in Towne Square (Palatine Road and Smith Street) and features the violin students of artist Amy Bachmann.

  • Friday, July 29: Guitarra Azul

Watch as guitarists, percussionists and dancers dedicate their talents to performing the flamenco style.

  • Wednesday, Aug. 3: Palatine Concert Band

Capitalize on your final opportunity to enjoy Sounds of Summer's classical style.

  • Friday, Aug. 5: Jimmy Sohn’s Rock ’n’ Roll Side Show

Notable lead singer from Shadows of Knight Jimmy Sohn rocks out with guitarist Mike Gotshall and vocalist/keyboardist Cindy Gotshall. Styles originate from the rock ’n’ roll sounds of the mid-1960s.

  • Friday, Aug. 12: Mr. Myers

Noon show is in Towne Square (Palatine Road at Smith Street) and features tropical styles of reggae and ska, as well as rock ’n’ roll and rhythm and blues.
