Why Go?: Twenty-two operating model trains! Get ideas on the great family hobby of model railroading from artists who will be doing on-site demonstrating. Thomas and Friends will be at the show. Vendors, food, give-away drawings, door prizes and free parking. Fun for the whole family.

Pricing: $8 for adults and teens; $6 for seniors 65 and older; $2 for children 5 - 12; Free for children 5 and under.

Where / When: The Chapel, 180 New Sutton Rd., Barrington; 10 - 11:30 a.m., Saturday March 5.

Why Go?:  Play in the dirt and discover the fun of starting your own garden from seeds. Learn the basics from a master gardener and take something home to grow.

Where / When: , 1801 N. Rand Rd., Palatine; 11 a.m.-1 p.m., Sunday, March 6.

Why Go?: Bring your bird feeders and houses to Knupper Nursery and volunteers from the Stillman Nature Center of Barrington will hand-wash them. While you wait, you may learn something new about owls from the Nature Center's director, Mark Spreyer, and one of his favorite raptor friends, an owl.

Why Go?: Swim, check out the playmaze, play basketball, try the climbing wall.
