Winter Arrives: First Big Snow

The National Weather Service has issued a winter weather advisory through Friday.

The Chicago area was expected to receive 2 to 8 inches of snow between Thursday and Friday, the National Weather Service said.

Palatine was expected to receive between 2 and 4 inches. The storm is the first significant snowfall for what has been a mild winter, so far.


The Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect through Friday morning. On Friday temperatures are expected to drop to the single digits with wind chill as low as -3, the National Weather Service states.

There also is a 30 percent chance of snow Saturday morning. The cold temperatures ar expected to continue Saturday with wind chill factors as low as -3.
