What was your favorite Halloween costume?

Take a trip down memory lane and share your favorite Halloween costume

We are in full Halloween costume production mode at our house. We've got the felt, glue gun sticks, and fake fur all over the kitchen as my daughter and I enjoy time together making her Halloween costume. We've made one together for the past three years and I really enjoy the creative ideas we generate and the time we get to spend talking while we craft. Two years ago she was a gingerbread cookie on a cookie sheet. Awesome! Last year she was a bat and we made her costume out of an old black umbrella. (Tip: Umbrellas don't come apart as easily as you think they would.)

I'd love to make a cool costume for my son but he just wants to find the scariest mask he can find at the costume shop and call it a day. To each his own taste in costumes.

While we were glueing last night my daughter asked me what my favorite Halloween costume was as a kid and I really had to stop and think about it. Only a few costumes stand out and oddly enough they were mostly ones that my Mom made for me or that I threw together in high school. I distinctly remember winning first prize for my costume in first grade. My Mother had sewn an elaborate penguin costume for me and while it was hot and impossible to wear for long, it was totally cool. I remember being a princess one year and my Mom made a huge pointy princess crown for me with streamers down the back. I also remember being mad the years that I had to wear a coat to go trick or treating because it ruined my "look". Finally, in high school, my friend and I went as a scary prom date. I was a werewolf in a tuxedo and my friend was a vampire in an old prom dress.
