Severe Thunderstorms, Hail, Damaging Winds Possible This Afternoon, Tonight

The scattered thunderstorms are expected to begin to develop this afternoon across far northern Illinois.

Severe weather could be headed our way.

The National Weather Service has issued a hazardous weather outlook for counties in northeast Illinois, including McHenry, Lake, Will, DuPage, Cook and Kane counties, for this afternoon and tonight.

Severe weather is possible and could bring with it thunderstorms, golf-sized hail and damaging winds. The National Weather Service reports there could also be an "outside chance of a tornado."

The scattered thunderstorms are expected to begin to develop this afternoon across far northern Illinois and then move this evening into much of north central and northeast Illinois and into northwest Indiana, according to the National Weather Service.

Storms are expected to diminish in intensity overnight. The most intense storms are expected to occur along and north of Interstate 80 between 6 p.m. and 1 a.m.
