PATH "Day of Giving" Now in 7th Year

PATH-Palatine Assisting Through Hope is getting ready to embark on its 7th annual Day of Giving event. 

Since 2006, the Palatine-based non-profit organization has garnered volunteers and thousands of clothing donations that make the event possible.

Palatine familes in-need will be given the chance to select donated clothing items at no cost on Friday, November 23 and Saturday November 24 at the Palatine Opportunity Center. 

"The Day of Giving has continued to grow over the years, and become that much more vital due to the current economy and its impact on hard working families in and around Palatine," said Rich Tyack, president of PATH.

"With the loss of jobs, many families are struggling, [the Day of Giving] helps especially those parents who simply want to provide basic needs for their children," Tyack said. 

Gently used or new clothing donations will be accepted Sunday, November 18 from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. at the Immanuel Lutheran Church "Annex parking lot," located at the southeast corner of Bothwell and Wood Streets. 

Donations also will be accepted at Sanborn School, 101 N. Oak Street on Monday November 19 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m and Tuesday, November 20 from 9 a.m. until 11 a.m. 

All clothing is accepted, but there is a particular need for kids winter coats, hats, gloves, scarves and clothes. 

Teenage and adult volunteers are needed for the following times:

• Monday, November 19 from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. for sorting of clothing at Sanborn School.
• Tuesday, November 29 from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. for sorting remaining clothing at Sanborn School and then transport donations to POC.
• Friday, November 23 from 3 p.m. until 6 p.m. to unload trucks and arrange clothing at POC.  
• Saturday, November 24 from 7:15 a.m. until noon to restock and replenish clothing donations, help guests locate sizes and help keep floors clear.

Service hours required by students at both Palatine and Fremd High Schools can be earned by volunteering for this event.

Palatine Assisting Through Hope is a 501 (c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to empowering people in need. This mission is carried out by providing food, clothing and other basic needs for families in crisis.
