Art Fair Coming To Palatine's Towne Square

The Palatine/Inverness Arts Council (PIAC) will present their 7th annual juried art fair, "An Art Affair Around the Square," on Sept. 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in Towne Square

The Palatine/Inverness Arts Council (PIAC) will present their 7th annual juried art fair, “An Art Affair Around the Square,” on Sept. 10 and 11 from 10 a.m. until 5 p.m. in .

Artists from all specialties, including water color, acrylic, oil, pottery, fine jewelry, stained glass and pastels will be represented.

“We are excited by the diversity of artists that have returned to the show this year and are impressed with the new talent participating in the show,” stated Show Chair, Betty Flamm in a press release. “This is a quality, juried art show presented as a celebration of all forms of art, from the traditional to the contemporary.”

Besides the wide range of art forms, the weekend show includes live entertainment by locally and nationally renowned musicians.

On Saturday Sept. 10, the Palatine Children's Choir will start the entertainment at noon, followed by the vocal and musical talent of Sandie Kindschy and Suzy Schwartz of Just Duet from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m.

Musician Pam Kay will perform from 3 p.m. to 4 p.m. and PIAC Board member and fingerstyle guitarist, Merv Collins, will complete the Saturday line-up with a performance from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m.

On Sunday, nationally recognized folk music group Small Potatoes will perform at the gazebo from 1 p.m. until 3 p.m., the press release states.

“Small Potatoes is a folk duo sensation and an amazing addition to the Art Show,” stated Flamm. “They have performed all over the country and are amazingly well known.” Following Small Potatoes is musically gifted Guyz with Bad Eyez from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.

Dobby’s Worldwide Liquors will hold a wine tasting at the gazebo from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. on Sunday. Hot dog lunches will be available for purchase from the P on Saturday and Sunday.

More than 30 artists will be judged by a panel of community residents and be awarded prizes for Best in Show. The awards presentation will be on Saturday at 3 p.m. at the gazebo and will be officiated by Palatine Mayor Jim Schwantz.

The Art Affair will host a childrens’ art tent where children will be able to create their own art. “This year we will be collecting baby food and formula at the childrens’ art tent for PHD,” Flamm stated. “PHD is a counseling center for pregnancy help and education which houses a baby and maternity closest which is in real need of donations.”

PIAC is committed to the cultural, educational and economic growth of the members of our communities through support and encouragement of performing and visual arts and artists. The Council considers the arts as an integral part of life-long learning and works to provide the accessibility of public arts activities to all people.

According to President Bill Pohlman, PIAC believes in the preservation of our cultural heritage and a responsible stewardship of community recourses. We believe in the power of the arts as a stimulant to our local economic environment. With our advocacy for the arts, we hope to encourage the highest aspirations in all art endeavors.
