Palatine Village Council: On the Agenda, Monday May 13

A number of items are on the agenda for the Palatine Village Council meeting tonight, beginning at 7 p.m.

Mayor Jim Schwantz will start off tonight's Palatine Village Council meeting, by recognizing .

A proclamation also will be made in honor of National Police Week, which is May 12-18. In 1962, President John F. Kennedy proclaimed May 15, National Peace Officer’s Day, and the week the date falls in as National Police Week. On May 15, United States flag will be flown at half staff at all government buildings, in Palatine and across the U.S.

The Palatine Village Council will consider the following:

  • A request by the American Legion Post 690 to hold a Car Show on Sunday, August 11 on Greeley Street between Palatine Road and Slade Street, and on Slade Street between Greeley Street and Smith Street where up to 250 classic cars will be on display for viewing.
  • A request by the owner of Orbit Skate Center, 615 S. Consumers Avenue, to obtain a liquor license to serve liquor in addition to its current food and beverage offerings. If the village council approves the liquor license, a floor plan adjustment to accommodate the new license will be required.
  • A special use permit request to operate a Dog Daycare with Boarding at 546 W. Northwest Highway, which is the property adjacent and directly southeast of the Bel-Air Motel.
  • A special use permit to operate a liquor store, Quick Liquors, at 2387 N. Hicks Road, which would include package liquor sales. The store would be located in the strip mall at the southeast corner of Lake Cook and Hicks roads.
  • Amending a Planned Development Ordinance to allow the operation of Barb’s Precious Rescue and Adoption Center at 313 N. Quentin Road. The shelter and adoption center would have a maximum of 50 cats and six dogs at any given time, and adoptions and viewing would be scheduled by appointment on the evenings or weekends. The area is located on Quentin Road south of Colfax and north of Palatine Road on the east side of the street, in what is called the Quentin Office Park Planned Development.
