"Palatine Rocks" Singing Contest Winners Named
Isabella Schieler won first place in the Juniors category and Lilly Tran took the top spot in the Teens competition at the first ever Palatine Rocks Singing Contest on Saturday during the Rockin' the Blocks Community Block Party.
Though it was a chilly afternoon, local performers brought out their best acts and competed in the first annual Palatine Rocks Singing Contest presented by the Palatine Area Chamber of Commerce on Saturday.
The competition was held during the Rockin' the Blocks Community Block Party at Slade and Brockway streets, a two-day event that featured entertainment, food and drinks, a dunk tank and activities for young people.
There were 11 performers in total; three who competed in the Juniors Category for children ages six to 12, and seven who vied for the top spots in the Teens Category for singers ages 13 to 19.
The Juniors performed first, and included Isabel Kaegi, 11, who sang On My Own from Les Miserables and Sophie Kaegi, 8, who sang Colors of the Wind from Pocohontas. Eight-year-old Isabella Schieler rounded out the three and belted out American Medley, a capella.
In the Teens category, seven young people competed for the top three spots. The contestants included:
- Brad Kolar, a Palatine High School sophomore who sang the song You and Me by Lifehouse, and played his guitar along as an accompaniment.
- Alayna Appino-Tabone, Palatine High School senior who performed Good Morning Baltimore.
- Allison Gile, an incoming freshman at Fremd High School, who sang Miley Cyrus' The Climb accompanied by Danny Gbur on guitar.
