Palatine Historical Society Program To Focus On Native American Baskets

The Palatine Historical Society will host a program on Native American Indian baskets Wednesday, March 16.

The Palatine Historical Society will host a program about Native American Indian baskets Wednesday, March 16 at 7 p.m. at the Palatine Library.

Patrick Doyle will present the free lecture which will cover Native American basketry of the Southwest from about 1880 to the present. The lecture will teach about the construction, materials, design and purpose of the baskets.

The baskets of several Southwest cultural groups will be shown including Apache, Havasupai, Hopi, Navajo, Paiute, Papago, and Pima. The baskets for several California tribes also will be discussed including the Klamath, Yokuts, Maidu, and Washoe.
