Mobile Tickets, Ventra Payment Coming to Metra by Jan. 1

Riders will soon be able to buy their tickets on their smartphones or with their Ventra cards.

Metra riders, you should soon be able to buy your ticket on your smart phone as well as use your Ventra card to pay your fare, according to an article in the Chicago Sun-Times.

The rail network will pilot a phone app this fall so riders can buy their tickets as well as show them to the conductor on their mobile phone, the article says. Ventra payment will be phased in at stations, starting with being able to use the card as a debit card, which is an option for Ventra cardholders, and later as a transit card, as it works on the CTA.
