Misericordia Fundraiser at Durty Nellies Saturday

Fundraising event now in its second year will benefit Misericordia Home in Chicago, where 20-year-old twin Palatine natives live and receive their care.

The 2nd Annual Misericordia Rocks! A benefit for Misericordia Home in Chicago will be held Saturday, November 24 at Durty Nellies.

The event, now in it second year, is organized by lifetime Palatine resident Paul Iuorio. Iuorio's 20-year-old nephews, Alex and Michael Iuorio who are twins, have lived at the Misericordia Home in Chicago for the last two years where they receive their care.

The Iuorio family as a whole have been residents of Palatine for the last 50 years. Paul and his brothers all graduated from Palatine High School. Vince, the third oldest brother in the family and his wife Julie, are Alex and Michael's parents. Julie also graduated from PHS.

"My family has been involved with Misericordia for the last 20 years with my two nephews, they provide such excellent care, so I thought, why not start our own event to help fund their mission," said Iuorio.

The Misericordia Rocks! fundraiser will include musical performances by Mike and Joe, in addition to a moderately priced silent auction, according to Iuorio.

Items will include autographed sports memorabilita, artwork created by the residents of Misericordia, in addition to upscale sunglasses.

Squares also will be sold for the Notre Dame vs. USC game, and proceeds will benefit Misericordia, in addition to the winners of the pools.

At the inagural event last year, $5,000 was raised, and close to 300 people attended.

This year, Iuorio has set a goal of reaching $12,000.

"Last year, there was an amazing outpouring of support for our cause for Misericordia, I am hopeful this year we can make even more of an impact," Iuorio said.

"We are confident we can do this, because we have one of the midwest's most popular cover bands, Mike and Joe, playing for us," Iuorio said. "There also will be a "Split the Pot" raffle, and other great prizes."

Durty Nellies also has pledged to donate 15 percent of the food sales to the charity, Iuorio said.

The event will be held Saturday, November 24 from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. and there is a $10 recommended donation at the door.
