Irish Market Coming to Palatine Saturday

The Paint the Town Green festival will feature an Irish Market at the Metra station downtown.

A little bit of Ireland is coming to Palatine's downtown Saturday, March 12.

An Irish Market will occupy the Metra train station, 137 W. Wood St., from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. as part of the Paint the Town Green festival.

"We will be giving the community a taste of Ireland at our Irish Market," stated Liz Noe of ElizEvents and the coordinator of the festival in a press release. "The train station will become a little piece of Ireland and provide tasty treats, shopping opportunities and the chance to help Journeys from PADS to Hope with their mission to help the homeless."

The market will feature several vendors including;

According to a press release from organizers, Bead World will be selling Celtic jewelry, Gigi Purses will be selling purses, Kabloom will have green carnations for sale. Trinity Irish Dancers and McNulty Irish Dancers will have information on learning Irish Dance. McLin Tours and Travels will have information on trips to Ireland.

Cookie Cards and Cupcakes & More by Kristine will be selling cookies and cupcakes. Morkes Chocolate will have a variety of treats from which to choose. Health Source Plus will provide health checks and chair massages.

will be bringing their "Money Machine." Individuals will have 30 seconds inside the machine to grab as much cash as possible as money is blown about.

Food, clothing and disposable paper products for Journeys from PADS to Hope can be dropped off at , , Fox Glove Cottage and Bead World. The Journal & Topics also will collect items at the Irish Market.

The Irish Market also will provide musical entertainment. There will be a variety of music throughout the day with Pam Brunkalla and her old jazz favorites at 11:30 a.m., Merv Collins and his instrumental guitar music at 12:30 p.m. and Guyz with Bad Eyez performing a wide variety of music on their guitars for two hours starting at 1:30 p.m., a press release from organizers states.

To entertain the children, at about 3 p.m., leprechaun Lucky McClover and Princess Katie M'Lady will take time from their visits around town to stop by the Irish Market. All throughout the afternoon, Safari Childcare will have activities for children of all ages.

“We will have games, crafts and give-a-ways at our booth to help keep the children entertained,” Ashley France, Advertising and Promotions Manager for Safari Childcare stated in a press release.

A wide variety of businesses will be celebrating Paint the Town Green.

Harrington Manor will have a store wide sale during the celebration and will have special pricing on flowers, clothing, jewelry and foodstuffs. 

will be holding a wine and beer tasting from 1 p.m. until 5 p.m.  Dobby’s will be tasting “beers with an Irish accent” as well as Bordeaux and wines from the Illinois River Winery.
