When Palatine celebrates St. Patrick’s Day with the “Paint the Town Green” celebration on Saturday, March 16th, revelers will have the opportunity to see a little bit of Ireland at the festival’s Irish Market under a tent at Durty Nellie’s, 180 North Smith Street in Palatine.
“We will be giving the community a taste of Ireland at our Irish Market,” said event coordinator, Liz Noe of ElizEvents. “From 8:00 AM until 1:00 PM the tent in Durty Nellie’s parking lot will become a little piece of Ireland and provide tasty treats, shopping opportunities and the chance to share the green with others.”
Paint the Town Green’s Irish Market will feature 16 vendors. For the Irish at heart, Bead World will be selling Celtic jewelry, Bonkers Gifts will have Irish trinkets and Long Grove’s Irish Boutique will be featuring their Irish wares. For those who would like to visit Ireland, McLin Tours and Travels will be able to showcase tour packages and help you book your trip.
To satisfy the taste buds, Signature Sweets will be selling popcorn, Little Sisters of the Poor will have homemade baked goods, Cookie Cards will have tasty treats and Oberweis Dairy will be handing out samples of milk as well as tea.
The Palatine Downtown Merchants will highlight their members and, for your dog, Maggie's Munchies will have dog treats.
Information will also be available on Palatine Patch, Daily Herald, Renewable Energy and Dr. Gerry Aylward, Chiagoland 4 Braces. Lochbands will be featuring non-slip headbands in their booth and, once you’ve finished touring the Irish Market, visitors can enjoy a chair massage from Felde Chiropractic.
The Irish Market will also provide musical entertainment. In addition to Irish favorites, there will also be a variety of music throughout the day with Merv Collins and his instrumental guitar music, Mary Lia and Guyz with Bad Eyez performing a wide variety of music on their guitars. According to the band, “We do a lot of Gordon Lightfoot and John Prine tunes. We also mix in some old standards too… like Deep River Blues, The Glory of Love and others.”
The ‘Paint the Town Green’ event continues to enhance Palatine’s position as a destination town for public festivals. The premier sponsor and presenter of the festival is Durty Nellie’s. Current top sponsors include the Daily Herald Media Group and Northwest Community Healthcare. Other sponsors include Lavelle Law, City Beverage, Emmett’s Brewing Company, Indian Guides/Indian Princesses, Palatine Patch and Chicagoland 4 Braces, Dr. Gerry Aylward.
Assistance has also been provided by Arlington Toyota, Borne2Dance and Bauer’s Brauhaus.
