April Fool's Day Pranks for Kids

Have Fun with These Silly Jokes to Play on the Kids on April Fool's Day

Do you play April Fool’s Day pranks on anyone in your family? Do your kids think it’s fun or do the pranks upset them?

Grandpa used to do some fun pranks for his kids and the grandkids but the funny part was he did them on all of the other Holidays – not necessarily April Fool’s Day. For example, he would put grass or vegetables in the Easter Egg Hunt eggs. (Boy, the kids' faces were priceless with that one.) He would wrap a can of corn for a kid’s Christmas gift. He put shaving cream on the phone receiver and handed someone the phone and said it was for them. Yuck! He woke his kids up on Saturday morning to hurry and get ready for school. While these pranks are annoying at the time, every single one of his kids and grandkids talk about these pranks fondly. Grandpa passed away before my kids were born but they never get tired listening to the “Grandpa prank stories”.

Here are a few easy and a few not-so-easy-but-totally-worth-it ideas to prank the kids this April Fool's Day.

Unplug their video game console. This will drive them nuts! After a few frustrating minutes and yelling “Mom, why won’t my game work?” maybe they’ll check to see if the plug is unplugged. It’s a classic because no one ever checks the power cord to see if it’s unplugged.

Jenn at the Clean & Scentsible blog had some fun ideas like switching the cereal bags in the cereal boxes so they pour an unexpected cereal for breakfast. I like her idea of freezing a bowl of cereal overnight. In the morning add a little more milk to cover the icy mass and see their confused expressions. Click through and check out her other ideas.

Change the time. Turning the clock forward to make them think they are late for school is always a classic.

Mess with their Food. I have seen some of the most clever ideas online for disguising food to surprise the kids. Check out this post for crazy food pranks for kids like meatloaf and mashed potatoes passing for cupcakes or a fried egg prank made out of canned peaches.

So, are the pranks themselves fun or is it the person doing the pranks that makes it good fun? What do you think? I’d love to hear about some pranks in your family.
