American Legion to Host Thanksgiving Dinner for Recruits

American Legion Post 690 will be picking up recruits from Naval Station Great Lakes and providing a day of fun, food and the chance to connect with their family and friends on the phone and the internet.

Palatine's American Legion Post 690 is doing some good for recruits from Naval Station Great Lakes on Thanksgving.

Members of the legion will be picking the recruits up bright and early at 8 a.m. on turkey day, and first heading to go bowling in Deer Park at Brunswick Zone. 

From there, the group will arrive at the American Legion Post at 11 a.m. and phones and internet, along with video games will be provided to the recruits to connect with family and to enjoy themselves.

"These recruits will have just completed Boot Camp, so an unstructured day with homemade food, phones and computer access is a huge treat for them with they're grateful for," said a legion representative. 

AT&T is providing the naval recruits with smartphones to call friends and family at the Amerian Legion, according to Erin McGrath of AT&T public relations.

A traditional Thanksgiving Dinner will be served at 2p.m., Thursday, November 22.
