Palatine Public Library District Replacing Flat Roof on Main Library

On Monday, August 27, 2012 contractors began work to replace the flat part of the roof on the Main Library at 700 N. North Court. The roof is original to the building which was constructed beginning in July, 1991 and opened for service in December, 1993. This type of roof typically has a life expectancy of 20 years so it is time to put on a new roof. The visible standing-seam metal roof sections will last for many more years and do not need to be replaced at this time.

Some noise will be heard in the library while the project is in progress but little or no interruption of library services is expected. It is possible that the walk-up materials drop may be inaccessible for a short period. The Library will provide as much advance notice as possible if this occurs.

Anderson and Shah Roofing, Inc. of Joliet, Illinois will replace the existing flat roof and insulation.  The old insulation will be recycled. Substantial completion of the project is expected on or before October 19, 2012. The company is storing equipment in a fenced area of the west parking lot. The cost of the project is $598,400 which will be covered by funds that are earmarked and budgeted for capital expenses.

The Library maintains plans for short-term and long-term capital expenses so that budgetary needs can be anticipated each fiscal year and for future years. The roof replacement has been included in such plans.
