Firefighters Honored and More, Today in Palatine

October is here, and it's a busy month in Palatine. Mark your calendars now.

Firefighters Honored - Tuesday, Oct. 1: The Palatine Fire Department is hosting a memorial ceremony Tuesday to honor the sacrifice of two Palatine volunteer firefighters who died while on duty. On October 1, 1946, Wesley Comfort Jr. and Leonard Nebel were fatally injured when responding to a fire when their fire truck was truck by a Chicago &Northwestern Railroad passenger train. They both died as a result of their injuries. The ceremony will be held at the Palatine Firefighter’s Memorial Tuesday, October 1, at the corner of north Brockway and west Slade streets in downtown Palatine. It will begin at 9 a.m.
