Why Do You Love Being a Mom?

A Mother's Day reminder of the joys of motherhood

Mother's Day is this Sunday, just in case you were too busy being a Mother to notice. It got me thinking about how sometimes I'm so busy, tired, and stressed that I don't stop to appreciate why being a Mom is worth it. Some days it's easier to focus on the negatives and I ask myself why did I go through all of the pain, nausea, sleepless nights, insecurity, and the extra 10 pounds that won’t go away? So, I wrote a post on Why Being a Mom is Worth It that I wanted to share. But more importantly, I'd love to hear from you.

Why Do You Love Being a Mom? Please comment below and let's create a great list of why Motherhood is amazing. The reminder is a nice gift to ourselves.

I want to wish everyone a Happy Mother’s Day. I hope your day is special – filled with “Chocolate Cake Moments” where you are smiling, indulged, and enjoying Mommyhood. For some Mother’s Day fun, read my post “Is a Mother’s Day Card Really a Performance Review?” Finally, here are some quotes to make you smile.

“Making the decision to have a child – it’s momentous. It is to decide forever to have your heart go walking around outside your body.” – Elizabeth Stone

“There has never been a day when I have not been proud of you, I said to my son, though some days I’m louder about other stuff so it’s easy to miss that.” – Brian Andreas

“Babies are such a nice way to start people.” – Don Herald

“It’s easy to complain about children. But when we want to express our joy, our love, the words elude us. The feelings are almost so sacred they defy speech.” – Joan McIntosh

“If evolution really works, how come Mothers still only have two hands?” – Ed Dussault

“It will be gone before you know it. The fingerprints on the wall appear higher and higher. Then suddenly they disappear.” – Dorothy Evslin

Happy Mother’s Day!

My son has taught me so much, about life and myself..I learned to be unselfish, and to appreciate the huge responsibility and obligation that being a parent is. I look into his eyes, and I see hope, and promise and an amazing opportunity to teach him all I can about giving back to others, and to encourage other traits that will someday (crossed fingers) shape him into a great man. While understanding-many times through him-that I still have much to learn about life myself...And this doesn't make mention of the fact that I simply love and adore him and am so proud to be his Mom!

I love being a mom because my two-year-olds are a source of joy and laughter, even when they are doing something wrong like putting Vaseline on each other from head to toe.

Gloria - Love the vaseline story. I'm sure that was a mess to clean up but as you said, it adds laughter to life. Happy Mother's Day.

I have been a Mother for a very long time, what can I say I have wanted to run away on occasions but for the most part there is NOTHING like being a Mom You see your children going off on their pwn and you want to run after them and tell them to stay then you know that is what they are suppose to do. You cheer when at 21 they can afford to buy a house, and are so responsible they don't need you to help them buy, wow I was impressed. Watching the grand-kids with respect to me and their Mother I know I have done my job well as a Mother passing on the morals etc. I could go on and on but I 'll save everyone how proud and greatful I am to be a Mom

Maria, My kids are just entering those tween years and already I'm amazed by what they can do on their own now. Sounds like you are a great Mom and are full of pride for your kids. Have a wonderful Mother's Day.

I never knew how much I could love another person until I had my son! I love watching him grow and learn something new every day. I am amazed at how smart and funny he is at 5 years old and I can't wait to see what the future holds for him! He has definitely blessed my life and I am greatful for him every day!

Because I can make my kid load the dishwasher. Sorry, I'm kidding. It's because when our daughter grows into a mature, beautiful young girl... she can walk our future dog.

I agree with NS. The kids can load the dishwasher, take out the garbage and we can live and love each other amongst the never ending clutter. The memories created by just being silly and remembering that even the most difficult moments shall pass (teen years) makes it all worth while. I couldn't and don't want to imagine my life without my two children, Christina and Jalen. My life is made richer by having you and knowing you. (Plus I don't have to take out the garbage. LOL!) Thank you for allowing me with all my flaws to be your Mother.

here's an interesting article that was on the front of the Huffington Post. They believe that a mom's infidelity can save the marriage. Thought this was a great topic for Mother's Day weekend.

Motherhood...what is not to love? They are babies and we worry like never before. They grow to toddlers and we love how much we can teach them. They start grade school and before you know it they are teaching us. Being a mom is THE BEST, a day doesn't go by that I don't thank the man upstairs for this beautiful gift.

I love everything about my kids, Mya and Tig, including my daughter's sense of compassion and my son's huge African laugh. I also love experiencing life through their eyes all over again. Such a privilege to be their mom!
