Who is Palatine's Person of the Year?

TIME magazine named President Obama their person of the year for the second time. Tell us who you think should win from our town!

On Dec. 19, Time magazine named President Obama their Person of the Year, again!

The magazine invited votes on 40 candidates, including the president, Gabby Douglas and Kim Jong Un. Other options included The Mars Rover and the Higgs Boson Particle, Egyptian president Mohamed Morsi, and Apple CEO Tim Cook. But, the president took the title again four years after he first won the award as president-elect in 2008.

But who cares about the same-old, same-old? Who is Palatine's Person of the Year—the man or woman who, in Timespeak, “most influenced the news this year for better or worse”?

Or, who do you know who impacts the lives of others, and deserves to be recognized?

Please share your pick, and the reasons why, in our comment section below.

Todd Pearson, the commander of the local American Legion Post 690, deserves to be Palatine's Man of the Year! The American Legion under Todd's leadership participates in many community events honoring our military. Todd is a credit to our Nation, the state of Illinois, Cook County and Palatine.

Glen Doherty and Tyrone Woods and all the other military personnel past, present and future. For if it wasn't for their dedication to give their lives we wouldn't have the freedom we enjoy.

Sandy Sandquist. A local Palatine lawyer started his own theater company this past year with his wife. He has been a theater and music enthusiast since a small child. In recent years, Sandy created his own Christian Rock Cd with a combination of original and covered songs. He is a wonderful husband to Colleen, and family man to his two daughters, Kylen, 21 and Kara, 18. This past weekend, Sandy trraveled with his daughter Kara and the Palatine High School Jazz choir to perform at the White House in Washington DC. His ambition, passion, spirituality, and presence in the community is admired by all. Fremont street theater company's musical this past summer, Anything Goes!, was a hit. Sandy Sandquist is truly an inspiration and proves is never too late to follow your dreams and start a new adventure.

I agree with Paul S. Rick Gibson should be Palatine's Person of the Year. If you know Rick, well, the choice is pretty clear.

Judy Reinholtz, 2012 President of the Palatine Jaycees. She has done a great job as Jaycee President, growing the organization and leading the chapter as we organized Hometown Fest, raising tens of thousands of dollars to support Palatine Organizations. This is just one project--other projects impacted the community as well including the Holiday Shopping spree, where 10 families in need from Palatine received $500 shopping sprees at Walmart and an additional $500 to pay rent and other necessities, Children's Holiday Party which provided gifts and fun to more than 150 children in need from Palatine, and so much more! Judy has been a wonderful leader this year and we could not have done it without her guidance and encouragement!
