What Would You Improve in Palatine in 2013?

If you could make a New Year's resolution for Palatine, what would it be?

As 2013 approaches, millions of Americans will make New Year's resolutions to improve their lives - what could we do right here in Palatine to make it an even better place to live?

Many residents have suggested there are too many bars in downtown Palatine, that vacant spaces need to be filled with businesses that may not currently exist, and that areas of the village need to have a stronger law enforcement presence due to crime.

What is on your Palatine wish list? What is one thing you would improve in 2013 that you think would improve our town?

Tell us in the comment section below or become a Local Voice, and talk about why you love living here, or what would make you love it even more!

I think we should have cameras up in certain sections of palatine because to many cars, garages and buildings are getting graffitied by gangs. Its getting worse not better.

Oh my god, lady, are you serious?! The village should pay out for cameras just so they can catch foolish gang thugs defacing buildings?? And then what? Some hooded, hidden-faced thug is caught on camera spray painting. With no possible way to ID him, then what? Stop thinking that the "Big Brother" way is the right way. Yes, it sucks that thugs deface buildings, but spy cameras are not the answer because why stop there? Why not put cameras everywhere to catch everyone doing something???

You obviously live in a sheltered world where you believe you should stay hidden in hopes that cameras will catch all the "bad guys" and keep you safe. You, my dear, will be one of the ones who will not survive.

No more taverns or pub food. We need a Panera Bread or something "fresh" downtown. NO MORE NEON BEER SIGNS IN WINDOWS . Enough is enough.

Paul, you already support the bars that are here. How many more can you afford?
You just want to find one that makes your singing sound good!

Improve the appearance of the section of Northwest Hwy east of Rt53 and Consumers Avenue to look like it's part of Palatine. We have no flower, flags, pots etc.

Unfortunately we have a very nice restaurant - Jasons Deli - that is closing permanently on New Years Eve. It was exactly the kind of place Palatine needed.

Some more businesses to re-vitalize the corner of NW Highway and Quentin. What's going to become of the Brandt's property in January?

A Panera Bread, Chipotle, and Potbelly in the old Anthem Grill location would serve Fremd and Harper students and all local businesses some great food.

And how about plowing the bike paths (not that it's been much of a problem yet). Many of us don't want to stop biking just because it's a little cold out.

Shut down Baxter and Beasley on Colfax. I am tired of hearing the constant barking of the dogs at this place. It is forcing me to consider moving.

Good. Go. Move, so we don't have to listen to your whiney sissified self sniffle about dogs. Good riddance.

How about just one good size shade tree by one of the benches near the fountains outside of Mariano's? It's a nice place for bikers to stop for a break - except for when it's hot out.

And, with all that water in the retention pond outside of Mariano's, couldn't they figure out how to water the sod once in while?

More gang enforcement to help stem the tide.
Enforcement of speed limits in school zones.
Enforcemnt of speed limits in subdivisions on through streets.
Incentives for business to stay and expand in Palatine, along with seeking out new business to open in Palatine.
Stop wasting village council time on triva matters as zoning for chickens.
Put in a stoplight at Williams and Palatine for the Fire Dept before a terrible accident takes place.

Ellen, I agree, a few shade trees by the retention pond by Marianos is a "must". It would make it more inviting to stay and linger after a bike ride or a nice walk up to Marianos.

Neon bar signs cheapen our downtown. Theres simply too many of them. And the nice italian restaurant SHOULD BE OPEN FOR LUNCH.
