VIDEO: D-211 Discusses the Merits of Videotaping Meetings
Motion to videotape board meetings defeated by 4-3 vote
Last night the Township High School District 211 Board of Education voted down a motion to videotape and post online their meetings for the public.
Watch and listen as all seven board members express their opinions on the subject of videotaping before defeating the motion 4 to 3.

I'm disappointed with Mr LeFerve's statement (re: Videl 3) "Of all this complexity, very little, if any of it, has anything to do with the business that we’re in, which is education,” he said. “And quite frankly I’m uncomfortable exposing the district further to something that is not in the business that we’re in. It’s just opening up more issues for us to deal with and I don’t feel very good about it.”
He misses the point. A primary responsibility to the community is to communications. For those who were at the meeting, Assistant Superintendent, Dave Tores, presented a power point review of the Operating Fund and why D211 needs to maximize the levy. If you were not at the meeting, getting an explanation of the power point content, the lay person, would have a difficult time understanding some of the content in the power point. This is a prime example why the board meetings need to be video tape and published.
