UPDATE: Congressman Joe Walsh Addresses Abortion Comments
Republican 8th District Congressman Joe Walsh held a press conference to clarify comments he made regarding abortion Thursday.
Republican 8th District Congressman Joe Walsh held a press conference to clarify comments he made regarding abortion Thursday (SEE VIDEO).
Walsh made some absolute statements Thursday on whether abortions are necessary, even in the instance of saving the life of pregnant women.
The comments came during a WTTW debate with his Democratic challenger, Tammy Duckworth.
Duckworth's campaign pounced Friday on Walsh's statements, and said through a press release, "Prohibiting a woman to have an abortion, when her life is at risk, shows a blatant disregard for the facts and a carelessness that is not acceptable from an elected official."
On the Walsh for Congress campaign website regarding family issues, Walsh states: "I am strongly Pro-Life and believe in the sanctity of all human life.
Congressman Walsh held a press conference at 2:30 p.m. today at 123 King St., Elk Grove Village to "discuss his comments about his pro-life stance during and after last night's [Thursday's] WTTW debate and to discuss the state of the race," according to a media advisory released by Walsh for Congress Friday.

There are so many more important things to focus on in this election than one comment. No matter which candidate you pick, study the entire picture before you vote.

What's more important than a woman's right to chose what's best for her and her already-born family??? Unless, of course, you are a domineering republican man.

Please, let's not go that far. He's obviously factually wrong but like Janet said, maybe somone doesn't care about the issue. I think that makes them slightly insensitive and naive, but that kind of language isn't accurate.

This is only one example of what a complete loon Joe Walsh has proved to be and a perfect example of how far detached from reality he is. It's understandable that some people saw a possible hero coming out of nowhere in the last election but he has proven that, not only is he incapable of handling his own financial and personal affairs in an honorable and forthright manner, but he has ignored his district in a self-serving folly of attacks, rants, and embarrasing episodes that have helped nobody. He has embarassed himself, his district and the GOP and it's time for him to go back to the hole he crawled out of and I have no sympathy either for anyone that would still vote for him simply out of malice for any other candidates or blind loyalty to a party-line regardless of the ridiculously incompetent representative on the ballot.

Before making some blank, judgemental (a.k.a. IGNORANT) statements, as least do a tiny bit of research on the personal stuff people.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Walsh_(Illinois_politician)
In the big picture, Illinois is near the top of the debt list as we get closer to Entitlement Nation, and we need to stop electing people who want to demonize others who are working, building their skill sets, and living below their means. Instead, look to encourage all people to be responsible and accountable to themselves.
Needless to say, this isn't anything CLOSE to Tammy D's platform.......

Tammy is concerned about women getting contraceptives and abortions. Women should get their own contraceptives and abortions on demand should not be paid by the taxpayer. Tammy is avoiding the real issues in this Nation: $16 Trillion debt, over 47 million on food stamps and close to 50% who do not pay federal income tax. Our Nation is sinking, yet Tammy continues to spin out of control to make political points. Tammy, shame on you!

Apparently you're ok with taxpayer money going to support unwanted pregnancies and children? You do realize that taxpayers get stuck for way more money when abortions are denied or unaffordable, don't you? If so, why don't you keep your religion out of government?
Bet you wouldn't mind taxpayer dollars going to Viagra. Gotta keep the women barefoot, pregnant, in the kitchen, and subsurvient.

Is Tammy still in the military or is she retired? They address her as lieutenanant colonel in the press, yet in today's Herald, it states that she is retired. If Tammy is not retired and on active reserve with the guard, where is the documentation that she passed the physical fitness test? Where are her evaluation reports? What does she do in the national guard?

Kevin, I respect your opinion and appreciate that you have studied both candidates and made an intelligent choice.
Ellen, there are issues facing our country that should dwarf the abortion issue. A woman has the right to choose what is best for her already born family before an abortion becomes necessary.
And I am not a domineering Republican man.

I used to dislike Joe until I met him, spent time with him and really listened. He has more common sense and down to earth ideas than any other canidate out there. I met him too and all he would do is let you listen because he refused to do so himself; interrupting any time anyone had anything else to say or to ask a question. He is supposed to represent our district and listen to us; not go off on a crusade for himself and his national backers with his persecution comlex, which was brought on by his own actions. And BTW, someone expressing their opinion about him or people who vote for him infringes on neither your 1st, nor 2nd Amendment rights.

You go, Ellen! Ignorance is bliss to women who don't give a darn about other women. Walsh seems to know or care little or nothing about women's issues. His own family problems point to the facts. And he needs to talk to obstetricians and gynecologists and be educated about complications MANY women endure during pregnancy which may lead to abortions. Janet, your comment:" Ellen, there are issues facing our country that should dwarf the abortion issue." Life and death is "dwarfed" to money and greed? Go to a maternity ward in a hospital and hold the hand of a women whose life is threatened by an ectopic pregnancy. Maybe (but maybe not) you'll think twice with empathy about the importance of women's reproductive rights.

Ellen, no I am not "devoted" to a domineering Republican man. I am simply someone who believes in personal responsibility, and I believe that voting for the leader of the most powerful nation in the world based on abortion views is ludicrous.
However, I respect the fact that everyone is entitled to their opinion, just as you are to yours and I am to mine.

Men have their say on the issue of whether a child should be born at the time they have sex with the woman. It is the woman's life and health (emotional and physical) that is affected by a pregnancy and she therefore MUST have the final say as to what is best for her.
So all you men who want to have a say in the abortion issue, you need to re-direct your efforts to make sure that you don't conceive a child you don't want to be aborted.
Ken

Well said J R, many people don't want to talk about ultimate resonsibility and accountability. Its much easier to blame others.
I also notice that for most people to think a candidate "CARES" about something, means that the candidate must be a fan of subsidizing it or giving it to you free. It is very unfortunate that these two have become synonomous, because if you look to the root of an issue, it gets down to individuals wanting to avoid personal responsibility, and others to pay for the consequences and ramifications of their decisions.
Bottom line......government is not here to protect you from yourself, they are her to protect you from others.

Ellen, I am not sure what the roads have to do with abortion.
No I did not personally build the roads that I drive on, however, I am happy to pay the taxes that built the roads on which I drive.
