Vision for Vacancy: Former Famous Dave's

The 8,200 square foot building formerly housed the restaurant that served a wide variety of BBQ. It went out of business in 2010. What is your vision for this vacancy?

Vision for Vacancy:

The former Famous Dave's at 1101 E. Dundee Road opened its doors in August of 2001 and served award winning ribs and American style barbeque.

It suddenly went out of business in December of 2010.

What do you think would be the next best use for this vacant property near the intersection of Rand and Dundee Roads?

Don't know what'd work there. I loved Famous Daves and was surprised and sorry to see it go. Most of the places to eat around there are fast food. Glad for Denny's on that corner at least. Where have all the coffee shops/greek-owned type restaurants. Nothing like it around there. I'm thinking of The Continental in BG. That type of place. Denny's fits the bill thankfully. Not sure much is needed in that spot. Please don't put more fast food in there whatever happens! There's enough garbage food in that area. And they wonder why people are so fat??

I kind of liked Famous Daves, not the best BBQ, but a good affordable place to bring the kids, It was always clean as well. Anyone know why they closed? Just not enough business?

Strip club or Asian massage parlor. Boy needs to get busy!

Totally agree with Catherine, no more fast food! Maybe a TGIF. Sad to see Jason Deli closed. Fast food but at least most of the food was healthy. Great salad bar with some organic items.

How about an Italian restaurant, or, even a Marie Callender's type of restaurant.

Orginaly Marie Callender's was at that location way before Dave's BBQ. It is sad to see so many locations in Palatine closing. There is not a good steak house in Palatine, so that would be nice. I have not heard of Brunch Cafe but sounds good. Would love to see a Cooper's Hawk in location were Idol's was located.

We were regulars at Egg Harbor, until we discovered Brunch Cafe, friendly waitstaff and owners (Greek) but not the usual Greek fare, and they have Bloody Marys and Mimosas! the closest one to Palatine is in Fox River Grove

YES! Buffalo Wild Wings would be great there! Good beer, good food. nice place to watch sports. I am SO sick over the ridiculously overpriced wings at Gators.

Why do you keep asking what we think should go there? You need to ask why can't we fill these spots? Did Dave's have a long term lease that is still being paid even if they are not there? If so nothing will be brought in till the lease is up correct? Why don't we have a reporter ask the property management some of these questtions first to see if it's even open for a new business? Then ask us what we would like see go there.

Hi Joemama,
There is no current lease, I spoke to Famous Dave's corporate before this published today. And, you do have a reporter/editor (me) who has called the property management company countless times to determine what their direction might be, my messages are never returned. There have been whispers that they are trying to clear out the mall to make way for a larger big box type retailer-possibly a Sam's Club, but I can't get conformation of that-yet. Have faith in me.
Thanks,
Melanie

Hi Melanie,
Thank you for the information I wish it was in the article then I wouldn't have questinoed you. I have seen a lot of the this mall loose busniess in the last couple of years. It's getting to be like a gost town except for Walmart.

I have found myself leaving Palatine for dinner or lunch, also. But I do like Alley 64, Artistic Cuisine, and Gianni's.

Given the flight business from the area to Deer Park recently, doubt you find any high end business locating in the area. Best bet would be to move the County Police substation, and combine it with the State Police, along with an INS office to the site.

Sam's Club sounds about right. Walmart likes to build those close to their stores. Starting to wonder if Palatine is where restaurants go to die. If franchises like Pizza Hut, Boston Market, Famous Dave's, Fuddrucker's, and now Jason's Deli can't make a go of it (taxes?) how can the independent small business? (Alemar's?)

It's not going to be a Sam's Club. Wal-Mart just closed the Rolling Meadows location. If they were going to open one I don't see why they would pick a new location that requires substantial investment and time when they already have a location ready to be brought back online.

Buffalo Wild Wings would be good for the old Famous Daves site. Sam's Club would also be a godd fit for the East side of the shopping center. There is not one close by. THe reason they closed the one in Rolling Meadows is because they had one in Des Plaines, which was close by. Nothing close to Palatine and would be good to give Cosco some competition. There is one in Mt. Prospect and Lake Zurich. This would be right between those.

Plus now the fact that TJ Maxx is moving out really kills that mall!

At least TJ Maxx is not moving to Deer Park. They are moving to the shopping center where Target is at. I would love to see a Sam's Club at that location.
