U.S. News Releases Illinois Best Public High Schools List
The public high school rankings are based on how well the schools serve students going on to college, in addition to those who are not. Eight high schools within Districts 211 and 214 are in the top 50.
U.S. News today released the rankings for Best Public High Schools by analyzing data from the 2010-2011 school year from more than 21,000 schools located in 49 states and the District of Columbia.
Locally, a total of eight high schools in District 211 and 214 township high school districts serving Palatine and Arlington Heights students were ranked within the top 45 out of 138 ranked high schools in Illinois. National rankings are also included in the table below.

Out of the 138 schools that received rankings in the state, Palatine High School was the only high school in District 211 that was not among them, in addition to Buffalo Grove and Rolling Meadows high schools which are both in District 214.
According to U.S. News, a three-step process was utilized to determine the Best High Schools. Parameters included each state’s use of proficiency test standards as benchmarks.

College readiness of students also was ranked. The steps that schools took to prepare students through participation in, and ability to pass Advanced Placement of International Baccalaureate college-level work, were used as indicators.

The rankings were achieved in conjunction with the American Institutes for Research (AIR), which according to the U.S. News website, is one of the largest behavioral and social science research organizations in the world.
