Knife-wielding Woman Robs Farmstand

It appears one woman's attempt to rob Cody's Farm Fresh Stand on Thursday afternoon has been squashed by Crystal Lake Police.

Police Cmdr. Dan Dziewior issued a press release Friday stating Amy M. Migliorato, 28, 5 Arrowhead Dr., Algonquin, has been arrested and charged with one count of robbery.

Police were called at 4:15 p.m. Thursday to Cody's Farm Fresh Stand at 140 S. Route 14, a vacant lot between The Freeze and the Crystal Lake Motel, where the 20-year-old stand attendant stated an unidentified white woman dressed in an orange jersey displayed a knife and demanded cash. The victim handed over the day's worth of proceeds. The woman then fled on foot, the witness told police.

Man Had Gun At McDonald's – For Caulk

Buffalo Grove police officers responding to a report of a man with a gun Monday night at McDonald’s found the suspect armed not with a weapon, but a caulk gun.

The incident was called in at 5:25 p.m. July 30 by a restaurant manager who saw the suspected gun, police said. When officers arrived, they found a homeless man who had fashioned a holster for his caulk gun out of a sock and some rope, Cmdr. Jim Newton said.

Teens Made Bomb With Toliet Cleaner

Two teens were charged with disorderly conduct and possession of an explosive device after they used toilet cleaner and foil paper to create a "bomb" on July 28, police said.

Officers responded to an arson complaint in the 8300 block of Christiana Avenue around 4:18 p.m. When they arrived they located several teens playing outside. One of the suspects told police "he made a MacGyver [type] bomb and threw it across the street," the police report states.  

When police spoke to the teenagers they told them they did not know "making a bomb was a big deal," the report states.

Men Sentenced In Child Pornography Case

Two suburban men were sentenced to federal prison in unrelated child pornography cases, federal law enforcement officials announced July 28.

Lubos Albrecht, 25, formerly of Lockport, was sentenced today to 12 years and seven months in prison for transporting and possessing child pornography. Bruce R. Biehler, 56, formerly of Arlington Heights, was sentenced Wednesday to seven years and three months in federal prison for possessing child pornography.

Albrecht had begun working as a live-in-babysitter for a family in Wheaton when he was arrested in March 2010. According to court records, Albrecht had amassed a computerized collection that contained approximately 10,000 images and 1,000 videos of child pornography.

Angry Solicitor Calls Homeowner Names

A solicitor selling magazine subscriptions knocked on the door of a residence in the 2200 block of DeCook Avenue July 18. When the homeowner told him that someone else from his company already had been there, the solicitor became angry and called the homeowner names. As the solicitor walked away he threatened the victim's husband.

Men With Guns Invade Home

An Evanston man heard a knock on his door and opened it to find three young men brandishing guns on Wednesday afternoon, according to police. 

The three men confronted the 21-year-old victim around 2:45 p.m. while a fourth stood watch outside the victim's home in the 100 block of Asbury Avenue, police reported. 

Two women and three children were also home when the four offenders arrived, according to police. Witnesses reported hearing the men refer to the location of money and drugs, and described them as being in their late teens or early twenties. After two people in the home escaped through a window, the young men with guns ran away, police reported. No one was injured.
