A pedestrian was killed after being hit by a Metra Train on Father's Day.
It happened around 11:15 a.m. at Cuba Road and Route 14 along the Union Pacific Northwest line, between the Fox River Grove and Barrington Metra Stations.
Metra officials say the incident also damaged the train upon impact, causing an extremely long delay for passengers.
"The train was stopped for quite a long time partially because the train itself was damaged in the incident. The passengers were taken off and put on another train, but that wasn't for at least a couple of hours," a spokesperson said.
It's unclear at the time if the death was accidental or a suicide. Patch will have updates to this story as they become available.

Unfortunately, I was in the front car of this train when it happened. The delay was bad - but the Metra conductors, as well as the Barrington Fire Dept & EMT's on the scene were awesome. They coordinated to get bottled water for the passengers, which was nice.

I was once on a train that was to leave Barrington but there had been an accident down line. It took hours to sort it out. Metro seems to be doing a good job with these major problems. Sorry every one had to go through all of this too.

A person died, and I read about how the delay was "extremely long for the passengers". I think we are becoming more and more a uncompassinate society.
Thank you Kelly, and I also give my prayers to the family who lost someone on Father's Day.

Monica, compassion has nothing to do with time. It took hours to fix, that is a long delay. If it had been a few minutes, that would be a short delay. Instead of looking for an excuse to complain about society, use common sense. That's what it's there for.

Kelly, Monica: thank you for putting this in perspective. My thoughts are with the family of the deceased - and my heart goes out to the train driver, who must have seen everything and been unable to stop it.

Blah blah blah.
Oh poor me, I'll be late for my manicure. Yeah, some guy kills himself and it's SOOOOO inconvenient. For all the people complaining about the delay, screw off. Walk to where you need to go, you could most likely use the exercise.
Good job, Metra, for handing out water, that was pretty cool. :)
