The Anthem Grill, 704 W. Euclid Ave., has closed.
Palatine Assistant Village Manager Sam Trakas said Anthem turned in its liquor license Tuesday, July 19.
On Wednesday one side of Anthem's marquee sign at the corner of Euclid Avenue and Quentin Road stated the business had closed, the other side offered a thank you to the community.
The sports bar portion of the business featured more than 30 TVs, including two 103 inch high definition projection TVs. Anthem also featured a large dining area that included outdoor seating.
Palatine Patch was unable to reach Anthem's owners. The sports bar and restaurant's web site still is active.

good food and service, what happened? Maybe the rent was too high? The taxes? what else could it have been?

Hi Arthur
I have not yet been able to talk to the owners. Although I did leave a message. I've heard a lot of good thing about Anthem...if I find out more I will do another update.

Definitely the taxes, I'd bet. I've known too many businesses in the area's that taxes are killer. And they are forced to close. Definitely talking $50K a year for taxes on many places up to $100K. Sad that taxes are so high yet Illinois is still in debt along with the US.

Sad to see them go ... my family enjoyed dining there a few times a month.

The Fremd neighborhood will miss them. too many picnics and not enough folks eating out.
The place is too big and that's why it has failed twice. MIA Cucina was also TOO big and is still vacant. Small trendy places do better.

Many local landlords don't fully understand what happens to businesses when the market turns. Especially a resturant. They have to adjust rents for businesses to survive in a market that is not what it was 3-5 years ago.

I am sorry to hear this. We need some nice, good food restaurants in that area of Palatine. It has to be very difficult in this economy to keep a place afloat, with their costs rising, rent too, and people not going out to eat as much as when they had more dispensible income. The times I was there, I liked it.

Sadly, another one bites the dust(oh cliche'). Nothing seems to last very long in that corner, unless it's a Brand name store. Durty Nellies chef extraordinaire Aaron Aggarwal brought his own artistic flair to Anthem when it first opened some 4 years ago, later leaving to start his own venture in Wauconda "Bulldogs" boasting over 34 different styles of burgers. Perhaps it was his leaving combined with the failing economy that led to this demise. Perhaps it was just crummy management. Time to turn another page in the Palatine history book.

The business started on 9/11? Was it known as Marlow's then? I thought Marlow's was doing OK, but somebody spent a lot of money redecorating the place to become Anthem, and then going belly-up a second time?? What gives?

Just to clarify, we were open for 22 months. What led to 'our' demise was too high of a rent, inadequate communication from building management as well as a tough economy. We had a great product, wonderful customers.. But ownership of that building was unreasonable. Nothing more to say. Another vacant building in Palatine.

Two more things ... no, Aaron had nothing to do with Anthem's closing and Anthem's owners were not the same as Marlowe's owners ... two different business owners.
