Although zoned for commercial businesses, for a proposed drive-thru for Starbucks and because the other proposed tenant, Charley's Grilled Subs, is a restaurant.

"To assume that you are going to have people coming off of Northwest Highway today that are going to make it into McDonald's without getting into accidents is completely ridiculous," Palatine resident Mark Bisaillon said at the October Zoning Board meeting. "To assume that that's going to remain the same when you stick another high-volume drive-thru in there is completely naive."

The coffee shop also would be located near , 189 W. Northwest Highway.

Norma Hipchen, owner of Norma's Coffee Corner, has had a flier for customers at her coffee shop outlining various concerns with the project. Norma's Coffee Corner opened in 1995 under another name. Hipchen purchased the business in 2000 and changed the name to Norma's Coffee Corner in 2001.
