Palatine Teen Gets 16 Years for Sexual Assault

17-year-old Palatine resident gets 16-year prison sentence for rape, the Daily Herald reports.

Charged as an adult, 17-year-old Ja’Juan A. Junior of Palatine pleaded guilty to aggravated criminal sexual assault and received a 16-year prison sentence Tuesday, the Daily Herald reports.

Junior was 16 years old at the time of the crime, the Daily Herald reports, and attacked and raped a 43-year-old Palatine woman who was jogging near the 1400 block of Evergreen Drive on June 30, 2011.

About two weeks later another Palatine woman was attacked about 2.5 miles from the location of the first crime, Patch previously reported. According to the police, Junior attacked a 34-year-old woman walking in the 700 block of East Pennsylvania Avenue and attempted to rape her.

Around 10:15 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 14, the 16-year-old grabbed and pushed the Palatine woman to the ground. During the struggle, police said Junior demanded that the woman undress and hit her repeatedly.

At some point, the woman was able to break free and escape the teen, the 34-year-old ran to her home and called 911. Hours later, the teen was taken into custody and police said he later confessed to the crime and was charged with attempted criminal sexual assault and aggravated battery.

Unlike the charges filed in the first attack, Junior was charged as a juvenile in attempted rape case reported Aug. 14.
