Palatine Police will again be working to keep the roads safe as holiday celebrations commence from Christmas to New Year's Eve during the holiday enforcement campaign. 

Through grant assistance from the Illinois Departmentof Transportation, Palatine police will be conducting saturation patrols as they have during past major holiday periods.

Both the “Click it or Ticket” and “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” campaigns will be in full-effect, and now through January 1, 2013, police officers will be on the lookout for impaired drivers, safety belt and speeding violations. 

Studies show that the above factors cause the majority of serious injuries and fatal car crashes, according to a Palatine Police press release. 

"The Palatine Police Department is dedicated to keeping our roadways safe through proactive traffic enforcement measures," the release stated. 

Police also plan to conduct a Roadside Safety Check late on December 21 into early on December 22. 

"According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), the midnight to 3 a.m. timeframe is the deadliest time on Illinois roads.  This timeframe also has the lowest occupant restraint use involving motor vehicle fatalities," the release further stated.

The Palatine Police Department asks witnesses to report erratic or impaired driving by calling 9-1-1.
